How to Be More Productive with Your Time on Instagram
Ever open your Instagram for a reason, start scrolling, and then 30 minutes later, realize you have no idea why you got on here in the first place?!
Guilty as charged.
As business owners - especially ONLINE business owners - we want to use social media for the purpose of making sales and building a following. However, most of the time, we forget this very purpose and end up wasting our time and not being as productive as we could be. Which, in turn, doesn’t lead to sales or a growing, prosperous business.
This is a hard truth to swallow for sure, but let me tell you…
Scrolling your feed is NOT working your business… #sorrynotsorry
I don’t care if you ONLY follow badass entrepreneurs who are constantly posting inspiration that lift you up and make you feel amazing about yourself. If you are not being STRATEGIC with your time spent on the app, you are NOT WORKING YOUR BUSINESS.
Here are our tips + tricks for using Instagram to build a business without wasting your valuable time…
>> Create before you consume.
A lot of times, I want to see what someone else posted about something and use it as inspiration. But, most of the time when this happens, I get caught scrolling and comparing, and then feeling completely defeated.
Instead of using that badass boss babe as inspiration, create YOUR content FIRST. You might just realize that you actually DON’T have writers block!
>> Have a plan for your Instastories.
Feel like your life is boring? Or maybe you just don’t even know what to do with your stories? Come up with a daily schedule that gets your posting 7-10 times per day, 6-7 days per week.
Have no idea where to start? You can grab our Instastories Template that has a sample schedule for you, plus some other tips to help you utilize stories without wasting your valuable time!
>> Be strategic with your time spent on the app.
Have a plan for how you are going to spend your time on Instagram to work your business. As the saying goes, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. And this could not be truer for utilizing Instagram for your business.
What are the things you need to do in order to grow your business on Instagram?
Do you need to be getting in people’s DMs? Do you need to comment + like posts? Do you need follow hashtags + add new followers?
And because I LOVE you (and you’re taking the time to read this), here is how my time is spent WORKING MY BUSINESS on Instagram…
Set aside 15-30 minutes during your work day specifically for Instagram time (note: you will NOT be scrolling during this time - this is WORK)
Reply to any direct messages you have in your inbox. ALL. OF. THEM.
Reply to any comments on posts you received
Go to the likes on your last post and then like AND COMMENT on the people who liked and commented on your post
If you still have some time, go to your followers + DM all your new followers (you don’t have to follow back unless you want to - but have the courtesy to tell them thanks for the follow and start a conversation with them)
This takes some time, I understand that, but let me let you in on a little secret…
You want a bigger following? You want more sales? You HAVE to be social on Instagram. You HAVE to engage with other people. SHOCKER, I know. But, when you actually take the time to show up on other people’s feeds, they’re more likely to take some time showing up on yours. And if you’re consistent with posting valuable content, you’re more likely to gain them as a customer, client, or business partner in the future.
Now, stop scrolling so much and go out and make some SALES in your business!
